March 31, 1985, was the date of the World Wrestling Federation's
first Wrestlemania, held at Madison Square Garden in New
York.
Here are three things you might not know about the first
Wrestlemania:
1. The theme song for the event was an instrumental version of
"Easy Lover" by Philip Bailey and Phil Collins.
2. The main event was filled with special guests. Former New York
Yankee player and manager Billy Martin was the ring announcer,
Muhammad Ali was the referee, while Liberace was the guest
timekeeper.
3. More than a million fans watched the event via closed-circuit
television, a record for that time.
